White cliff with protrusions, Pukearuhe beach We were told there were fossils of giant sea shells in the cliffs at this beach so we looked carefully at the round stones protruding from the cliff. We thought these were probably not fossils, but would stand corrected. There were more shell like objects higher up the same cliff. ( Photo below ). Pukearuhe itself, is an unusually beautiful remote section of the west coast, with colourful cliffs, black iron sand and sea sculptured stone. Whitecliffs area, West Coast, North Island, New Zealand. These were the objects higher on the same cliff face, we thought were the giant sea shell fossils we had been told about. They appeared to measure about 30cm across. Can anyone confirm?
